Recent paintings

Painting has been my passion since I was in grade school. My mother wisely sent me to painting lessons at a young age, probably so she could have some free time to herself. The more I painted, the more I loved it. And that started my artistic addiction.

I majored in Fine Arts in college, a BFA in Painting and Drawing, much to my fathers chagrin. He wanted me to major in business or a practical degree. And he was right, as usual. As a young artist, I could not make a living. So for years I painted when I could. My paintings were a hobby, given to family and friends as presents while I worked full time to raise my family.

I entered a few Art Shows, won several prizes including Best in Show awards. And I always promised myself that when I retired, I could paint full time.

Finally my time has come.

Morning has Broken 2

One of my most recent paintings, the inspiration for this painting came from plein air studies and photographs of the Bourbeuse River in the Missouri Ozarks. It was a misty, humid midsummer morning and the river was running high due to heavy rain the previous day.

Most of my paintings represent every changing color and light. Sometimes, as in this painting, I use complementary colors. At other times I use analogous colors to depict the mood of the scene.
